Champalimaud Design - The Latest Residential Project in New York

Champalimaud Design created a chic chalet in New York City – The Vail Residence. It completely captured the clients’ personality.

The studio was enrolled to alter a selection of the original decorative decisions made by a previous restoration. Champalimaud Design is renowned for its refined design, this it was able to create an environment that is sophisticated, relaxed and comfortable, whilst still embracing in tandem the formal nature of the property.

The property has large rooms, with elevated ceilings and a key feature is the double-height living room. The studio has designed this property with the challenge of harnessing the opulence of it, thus creating paramount intimate spaces for the family to relax.

The interior draws inspiration on the beauty of the surrounding landscape and fir trees, being nearly entirely panelled with exotic Koa wood thus providing an inescapable sense of grandeur and elegance.

From walls to accessories and furnishings, each room has been meticulously and thoughtfully designed in order to complement the owners’ personalities.

The sofa in the Great Room has been designed with a wood back tucking in the squared corner, to allow drinks to be enjoyed and then placed behind. The clients’ extensive art collection was reframed and used as inspiration for many rooms.

The Matisse pen and ink drawings inspired the palette in the Great Room and were hung over the panelling to help break the formations. With the personalities of the owners successfully conveyed through the studio’s design, Champalimaud Design has been able to create the perfect home.
