Craftsmanship Summit 2018 - 5 Highlights of The Luxury Design Event

Craftsmanship Summit 2018 was a two-day event, from 20-21 of June, and counted with more than 500 people ready to celebrate the arts that Portuguese people have mastered over the centuries.

After the birth of the BrHands Foundation that supports and spreads the knowledge of the hands that create art, Covet Group took a step forward and decided to showcase live all the arts that make high-end design grow stronger everywhere. From Filigree to Tiles, Arraiolos, Upholstery, and many other forms of handcraft, everyone was blown away by the mastery shown in the Multiusos de Gondomar arena.

Upholstery

Embroidery

The craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. The process used to tailor, patch, and reinforce cloth fostered the development of sewing techniques, and the decorative possibilities of sewing led to the art that nowadays is embed on design pieces.

Arraiolos

Arraiolos rug, embroidered floor covering made at Arraiolos, north of Évora in Portugal. The technique is a form of cross-stitch that completely covers the linen cloth foundation. Today, most rugs are made as a cottage industry by the women of Arraiolos.

Sirgaria

Born from the Baroque style, this art adds to the aesthetic ornamentation giving to any product beauty and sophistication traits.

Design Studio

The next Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit will take place in Paris, next January 2019, in one of the most famous trade shows in the world – Maison et Objet.
