Bentel & Bentel, Architects/Planners AIA has built a reputation for exceptional contemporary design since its founding in 1957. Their work is consistently audacious, cutting-edge, imaginative, and exquisitely resolved.
The International Interior Design Association, the American Institute of Architects, the Society of American Registered Architects, the James Beard Foundation, and Hospitality Design have all given their work multiple international, national, and regional honors for design quality.
They design unique scenarios and content that captivate and motivate individuals. They hold that real things, including cities, structures, interiors, furniture, and other common items, are where the design process is completed. Because of this, they look for emotional impact in their work more through the experience of physical qualities than through allusion or reference.
They had to be entirely reconstructed because they were originally intended for a young cook and to meet the requirements of the new Italian restaurant, which still featured a Juliet balcony inside.
The customer enters the restaurant and has a choice between the expansive dining area with a curved wooden railing to the left or the curvilinear bar in front. A walnut railing that comes from a vertical screen gives the dining room a distinct individuality. Hanging porcelain light fixtures add incomparable refinement.
Les Sablons is a brand-new urban eatery located in Cambridge, Massachusetts’ renowned Drivers Building, on the edge of Harvard Square. The restaurant has three levels: a basement kitchen, a 50-seat bar and lounge on the street level, and a 100-seat dining room with a 14-seat bar on the second floor.
Taking advantage of the low-angle, early-evening light that floods through the existing huge windows that run along one side, the design of the second-floor bar and dining area contrasts with the dark intimacy of the second floor. The seating density rises as customers pass by the blue velvet chairs, honed marble bar, and yellow velvet banquet hammock as they walk from the top of the stairs at one end of the room into the long, narrow area. Their journey ends in a dining area with white tiles that can be turned into a semi-private space for intimate gatherings and is ruled by an amusing, modern wall sculpture.
A 60-seat restaurant with an entry area, lounge, private dining room (which may be merged with the lounge to seat 20), and a 40-seat dining room make up Tony’s Restaurant’s tightly packed layout. All surfaces are covered in cherry-veneered, sound-absorbing wood paneling, bringing back a design element from the previous restaurant. A set as tight and interconnected in spirit as “Saltimbocca Alla Romana” and a glass of delectable Tuscan red is created by custom banquettes, wood and metal screens, carpets, design flourishes in wood, metal, and glass, as well as custom curated and produced artwork.
