1. COVET LONDON
Although it is a showroom you can find many products of European brands, like BRABBU and Boca do Lobo, that treat upholstered furniture and interior design with the respect that comes with years of know-how through the tradition of handcraftsmanship.
2. RUSSEL & CHAPPLE
Known as the secret source for extra-wide plain cotton and linen fabrics suitable for curtains and upholstery, R&C has selections including herringbone 100 per cent Belgian linen, lightweight ecru and ivory linens woven in Scotland.

3. REVIVAL UPHOLSTERY LONDON
Revival is a Notting Hill institution founded 30 years ago by Shay Kelly. Since then Kelly, 62, has reupholstered pieces for everyone from Elton John to Samantha Cameron. More recently, Kelly reupholstered a piano stool for Jarvis Cocker and adorned an armchair with 100 peacock feathers.

4. THE LONDON CHAIR COLLECTIVE
The London Chair Collective, a network of 12 independent upholsterers scattered across the capital set up the collective in 2009. While much of their time is spent working on individual projects, they congregate at a Hackney warehouse when commissions call for teamwork.
5. 7UPHOLSTERY
Michael Bissell, the owner of 7Upholstery, is drawn to the most “weird and wonderful” jobs like a sofa with a wild jungle print for Paul O’Grady and 3m-high wall panels made of Turkish silk scarves. 7Upholstery is regularly commissioned by the Soho House group to reupholster headboards, footstools, and armchairs, and by Ralph Lauren to cover backdrops for shopping displays to dress the Ralph Lauren VIP room at Wimbledon.

6. BERNARD THORP
Bernard Thorp is famed as the source for bespoke, high-end, hand-printed hessian fabrics, or “burlap” as the jute fibre is known in North America. Described as “unexpectedly chic” by a journalist for House & Garden magazine, hessian is chic only in the hands of Bernard Thorp’s “family” of experts who design and hand-finish each screen print.

7. LIBERTY
Liberty is a fabric royalty. It is renowned for prints associated with its history, such as floral, peacock and paisley “art fabrics”. Liberty’s museum-quality design archive allows the company to create new contemporary collections “codded to nature, art, architecture”.
